Strategic Objectives
The primary objectives of LA Mediators are:
#1 - Mediation widely recognized as a profession. #2- Mediators fairly compensated.
These goals have not yet been achieved.
They form part of a Strategic Plan adopted by the SCMA Board in April, 2005. The plan was very costly to develop, both in time and money. The Board duly adopted it, however the plan and its goals were not communicated to the membership, save the few members who happened to attend the meeting on April 10, 2005. The Strategic Plan in its entirety is published below.
STRATEGIC PLAN of April 10, 2005, adopted by SCMA Board:
Vision - A world in which conflict is managed by efficient, non-violent and fair processes that value party self-determination. Note: mediation is not about settlement for settlement’s sake
Missing Possibility - The possibility that people believe they have the power and resources to resolve conflict.
Mission - SCMA establishes mediators as valued professionals in Southern California.
Core Values
- Mediation is a distinct profession
- Service to the mediation profession
- Service to the public interest
- Integrity as individuals and as an organization
Goal Values
- Excellence: We carry out our mission with a commitment to excellence both in what we do and how we do it.
- Respect: We are a community of individualists. We show equal respect for the art and the science of what we do. We balance our sense of community with respect for individualism.
- Communication: We listen respectfully, speak thoughtfully and encourage productive discourse. True communication begins with careful listening.
- Education/Learning: We encourage learning from every field of human endeavor and bringing that knowledge to bear on our work.
- Collaboration: We honor and encourage collaboration within SCMA and with our fellow stakeholders.
- Personal Satisfaction: Fun with sense of professional pride
Strategic Goals:
Beneficiaries of Mediation Strategic Goal 1: Mediation is an integral part of dispute resolution. Strategic Goal 2: In selecting mediators, beneficiaries are able to distinguish levels of quality.
Mediators Strategic Goal 3: Mediation is widely recognized as a profession. Strategic Goal 4: Mediators are fairly compensated.
Investors Strategic Goal 5: Membership in SCMA is essential for a professional mediator. Strategic Goal 6: Leadership in SCMA is recognized as leadership in the profession. Strategic Goal 7: SCMA membership and leadership are diverse.
Government Strategic Goal 8: The judicial system is accessible to those who need it, and not unduly burdened by those who don’t.
